RISKANT – Violence risk assessment of islamist-motivated individuals

The aim of the joint research project was the development of a two-stage system, which is able to assess the risk of committing a serious Islamist-motivated act of violence and the need for intervention. Within the sub-project, the research group has contributed forensic psychological experience in risk assessment and planning of interventions.

The focus of step one was to develop and validate a highly standardized and easy-to-use risk assessment tool based on current knowledge. The Forensic Psychology research team introduced empirical and practical knowledge from a forensic psychological perspective regarding risk assessment and risk management in line with scientific standards.

The aim of step two was to conduct a case-by-case assessment of individuals identified as posing a high risk of offending in step one. The research team incorporated research standards as well as clinical expert knowledge concerning violent and sexual offenders and perpetrators with extremist backgrounds.

The need for intervention in an individual case is assessed based on the identified risk factors associated with violence. The system is software-assisted.
