B.Sc. Psychology with 3-year standard period of study
according to PsychThApprO*

- 6 semesters standard period of study
- Starts in winter semester
- Basic modules: 1st-3rd semester
- Advanced modules: 4th-6th semester
- Orientation examination: until the 4th semester
- Internship 4th semester: a total of 10 weeks full-time

*Approbation regulations of the new Psychotherapists Act are fulfilled
upon completion of the psychotherapeutic internships and the
supplementary module "Psychotherapy" (with restricted admission).
This qualifies for a consecutive master's programme with a focus on
psychotherapy, among others, and for the further psychotherapeutic
qualification pathway.

Admission requirements

  • general/subject-specific higher education entrance qualification;
  • successful aptitude test for particularly qualified professionals without higher education entrance qualification;
  • foreign higher education entrance qualification that is equivalent to German standards;
  • assessment test of preparatory programme (Feststellungsprüfung Studienkolleg);

Prerequisites

Foreign language skills

Good command of the English language is important, as most literature and some of the seminars are in English. 

IT skills

Confident use of computers is a prerequisite, as many processes during your studies are handled exclusively electronically (e.g., registration for exams and seminars, access to course materials).

Selection procedure

General selection procedure at the University of Konstanz

  • 90 % of the places are allocated to the applicants with the best qualification/suitability
  • 10% of the places go to those with the longest waiting periods (up to 7 semesters will be counted)

Qualification is assessed on the basis of the following criteria

  • overall grade of higher education entrance qualification
  • professional training in fields adjacent to psychology

Reform of the Psychotherapists Act - New programmes for the licensing examination in psychotherapy

For the bachelor programme in Psychology, professional recognition in accordance with the Psychotherapists Act and the Licensing Regulations for Psychotherapists is intended to enable training towards the licensing examination in psychotherapy. The Master's programme based on this with a focus on clinical psychology and psychotherapy (with admission to the licensing examination in psychotherapy) is in preparation and is expected to start in the winter semester of 2023/24.
