Short bio

I have studied psychology at Utrecht University and Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. After these studies, I have written my dissertation in cognitive neuroscience at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics and the University of Tübingen on self and body part localizations in virtual reality. I have joined the AG General Psychology with Focus Cognitive Psychology as a postdoctoral researcher in May 2022. Currently, my main research interest is in the psychophysiological —particularly interoceptive — and behavioural synchronizations between people, and their relations to cognitive and affective information processing in social situations. I aim to investigate this topic also from ontogenetic, i.e. developmental, as well as phylogenetic, i.e. across-species, perspectives.

Research interests

  • 4E cognition
  • Psychophysiology, particularly interoception
  • Body perception, experience and representations
  • Biological theories of selfhood
  • Affective psychology
  • Human enhancement
