In the Department of General Psychology with Focus Cognitive Psychology/AG Lenggenhager, the following fixed-term position (initially for one semester, with potential extension) is available for 43 hours/month: 

Research assistant (m/w/d)

Join the Cognitive Psychology group at the University of Konstanz as a Research assistant (Studentische(r)/Wissenschaftliche(r) Hilfskraft) (m/w/d) in psychology/cognitive neuroscience/informatics for an opportunity to research future interaction paradigms for Mixed Reality.

The position is supported by the ISMiR project in the Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour (CASCB) (https://www.exc.uni-konstanz.de/collective-behaviour/research/structure/a-individuals-in-the- collective/ismir/). The successful candidate will assist in experimental and survey studies focused on understanding the relations between physiological, cognitive, and behavioural processes involved in interactions in a variety of social situations in virtual and mixed reality environments. Understanding these fundamental processes better, including their potential synchronisations between individuals during the execution of different collaborative and competitive tasks, should additionally inform the development of novel user interfaces and interaction techniques (in collaboration with our partners from the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) group).

Job description

  • Implementation and analysis of online survey studies.
  • Assistance with running experimental studies employing physiological, affective, cognitive, and behavioural measures.
  • Bi-weekly attendance of lab meetings.
  • Potentially, data analysis, using R, Matlab, or SPSS.
  • Potentially, implementing VR studies, using Unity and various VR and AR setups.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a psychology or informatics programme leading to a university bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Curiosity.
  • A reliable and precise working style.
  • Good spoken and written communication skills in English (German language skills are of advantage, but not required).
  • The ability to work in a team, as well as independently.

Advantageous skills

  • Experience with online study tools like Lab.js, Openlab, Sona, Prolific, Psychopy, Psychtoolbox, Qualtrix, or similar.
  • Affinity with user experience (UX) research.
  • Experience with virtual reality or human-computer interaction techniques.
  • Coding proficiency, preferably in Python or C(#).
