What degree will I get by completing the programme?

Graduates of the continuing education master's programme are awarded the Master of Science (MSc).

Is it a master’s degree in forensic psychology?

No. The continuing education master's mrogramme in forensic psychology is a master's degree in psychology. Graduates earn the Master of Science (MSc).

At the same time, the continuing education master's programme focuses on forensic psychology in particular. All the courses focus on questions from forensic psychology and provide training in forensic psychology.

What are the admission requirements?

To be admitted to the Continuing Education Master's Programme, you need

  • A 4-year bachelor's degree or a master's degree in psychology, as well as a minimum of 1 year of work experience; or
  • A qualification in psychiatry with comparable skills to those obtained for a degree in psychology (bachelor’s or equivalent), as well as a minimum of 1 year of work experience; or
  • A first state examination in law, with comparable skills to those obtained for a degree in psychology (bachelor’s or equivalent), as well as a minimum of 1 year of work experience.

Can I be admitted with a three-year bachelor’s degree in psychology (180 ECTS)?

No. The admission requirement for the Continuing Education Master's Programme is a four-year bachelor’s degree in psychology (240 ECTS) as well as at least one year of work experience). However, if you have already successfully completed the master’s programme in psychology after a 3-year bachelor's programme and have at least 1 year of work experience, you will be admitted.

What are the application deadlines?

  • If you want to start studying in the winter semester, you need to apply by July 15 of the same year.
  • If you want to start the programme in the summer semester, you need to apply by January 15 of the same year.

Can I complete the continuing education master's programme and work at the same time?

The study programme is organized, so that it is compatible with work responsibilities. All courses are offered as block seminars that take place from Friday to Sunday. In the standard period of study of four semesters, two seminars are scheduled per semester.

As a psychiatrist, can I take part in the Continuing Education Master's Programme?

Generally, yes: certified specialists in psychiatry who can document that the competencies acquired so far - through professional training or continuing education - correspond to those acquired in the subject of psychology (minimum degree Bachelor of Science [BSc]) at the University of Konstanz, can participate in the master's programme.

As a lawyer, can I take part in the Continuing Education Master's Programme?

Generally speaking, yes: Anyone who has passed the first state examination in law with a focus on criminology or the corresponding (foreign) equivalent and can prove that the competencies acquired so far - e.g.  from professional training or continuing education - correspond to those acquired in the subject of psychology (minimum degree Bachelor of Science [BSc]) at the University of Konstanz, can participate in the master's programme.

What are the tuition fees?

Tuition for the programme is 2,500 euros per semester (specific study fee) plus the general study fee (at the moment 179 euros). This adds up to 10,000 euros over the course of the standard period of study of four semesters plus the general study fee (at the moment 716 euros). If the standard period of study is exceeded, additional fees will incurr.

Is the study programme accredited by professional societies?

The Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Rechtspsychologie (Swiss society for legal psychology approves the completion of the forensic psychology programme within the training guidelines of the FSP (federation of Swiss psychologists) as a valid qualification for the specialist (certification in legal psychology (Zertifizierte Rechtspsychologen und Rechtspsychologinnen).

Theoretical modules of the postgraduate forensic psychology programme can be recognized within the framework of continuing education as a specialist psychologist for legal psychology BDP / DGPs under certain conditions. 

The courses are accredited by the Landespsychotherapeutenkammer Baden-Württemberg.
