Solutions to core survival requirements are present in nearly all creatures with the ability to move. The overarching research hypothesis posits that cognition emerges through rhythm-mediated action. In this framework, the dominant brain rhythm facilitates and monitors sensorimotor output, serving as a prerequisite for a proactive processing chain in cognition that begins with action. This principle is not exclusive to neuronal collectives; it is preserved across organizational scales and is also evident in fish and bird collectives. It is a taxa-overarching principle that enables both neural and animal collectives to interact with their environment and adapt their behavior.
