There are numerous internal and external programmess at the University of Konstanz to financially support Diverse programmes support stays abroad for research, teaching and training purposes.

This page provides links to the most relevant funding opportunities for international mobility and advisory services at the University of Konstanz.

Funding opportunities for research, teaching & training abroad – all target groups

Erasmus+ Teaching Staff Mobility - mobility grant for teaching stays at partner universities in Europe and worldwide

Who?

Lecturers employed by the University of Konstanz (academic staff, professors, PostDocs, even doctoral students and contract lecturers).
Additional funding for “special needs” is available upon request.


When?

Teaching staff mobility in Europe: apply at any time for the academic year, but please inform the International Office by mid-January so funds can be reserved for you.

Teaching staff mobility around the world: Please refer to the current call for applications for visits at Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility partner universities.

Where?

Partner universities in Europe which have signed an Erasmus+ interinstitutional agreement for student mobility with the University of Konstanz. Before the teaching mobility, both home and host university must confirm the teaching staff mobility by signing the "Teaching Agreement".


How many classroom hours?

At least eight classroom hours per mobility/week are required.
As of 2018/2019 this can be reduced to 4 hours in combination with training acivities.


How is "Teaching" defined?

 "Teaching" is widely defined and includes all academic teaching activities, e.g. seminars and lectures. But can also refer other forms of academic teaching, e.g. co-teaching activities with local staff, guidance of doctoral students, speeches, tutorials, etc. The lecturer needs to be physically present at the host institution, online teaching is not eligible.

How is "Training" defined?

This is any activity to be benefit of academic teaching and professionnel development of academics, e.g. workshadowing, curriculum development, exchange about standards of teaching and research, etc.
Research activities itself are not eligible nor is the partipation and presentation at conferences.


Financing?

Funding amounts vary by country. Up to five working days can be funded according to the applicable Erasmus+ rates as well as the corresponding travel allowance. Longer mobilities usually cannot be funded because of budgetary restrictions.

Up to two teaching stays per person and academic year can be funded. Lecturers who have not yet received Erasmus+ funding have preference.

Ontario/Baden-Württemberg Faculty Mobility Programm

The Ontario Baden-Württemberg Faculty Mobility Program is part of the state-to-state programme of Baden-Württemberg and the province of Ontario, Canada, with the objective of strengthening the exchange of science and research. It is the second pillar of the partnership besides the student exchange. Joint research projects can also intensify the cooperation in the long term and build a growing network. With the help of the deeper networking of researchers and lecturers, students can also be won over for future exchange.

The research fellowships are intended for the realization of a research project of one's own choice in cooperation with an academic host at a partner university in the province of Ontario who provides the necessary research facilities at the host institute and is available as a contact person for the implementation of the research project.

Target group:

  • Experienced scientists with a clearly recognizable, independent scientific profile 
  • (Junior) professorship, junior research group leader or doctorate with at least two to three years of scientific activity in the subject of the application,
  • Several years of independent scientific activity,
  • All academic disciplines. 

Framework:

  • Funding of research stays of one to four months at a partner university in Ontario, Canada
  • Monthly grant of 1,200 euros plus a one-time travel allowance of 1,200 euros,
  • At least one public lecture at the host university is mandatory,
  • To a limited extent, a teaching position at the host university can be pursued, 
  • The research stay must begin and, if possible, end in the calendar year following the deadline for applications.

Call for Proposals – Internationalisation Funding in the Excellence Strategy

For 2024 there will be no Call for Proposals

Funds have been approved for Internationalisation measures planned within the Excellence Strategy concept. You are therefore invited to apply by

                                                                                February 15

for the following funding lines:

  • Funding line 1: Travel and accommodation expenses for doctoral researchers and researchers from the University of Konstanz for projects abroad in the areas of teaching or research or for participation in congresses or workshops
  • Funding line 2: International visiting lecturers, virtual visiting lectureships and virtual teaching as well as virtual teaching in co-teaching teams
  • Funding line 3: Start-up funding
  • Funding line 4: Initiation of new or further development of existing partnerships

For all four funding lines, we would like to emphasise that digital or hybrid formats are particularly welcome. In all funding lines, you can apply for measures that are implemented virtually in whole or in part.

Please note that if the funds are approved, they have to be spent by the end of November and cannot be transferred to the next year.

Please note:

  • Only measures that will take place within the period March 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023 can be supported.
  • Only invoices submitted by November 30, 2023 at the latest can be paid.
  • Only applications which are complete and submitted within the deadline will be considered.
  • The project plans and financial plans submitted are binding.
